• Some key ag stats from Statistics New Zealand:

  Sheep numbers at 30 June 2010 were provisionally estimated at 32.6 million. The national dairy herd was provisionally estimated to have reached 5.9 million in 2010, which was 8.5 percent higher than in 2009. Provisional results show that beef cattle numbers declined to 3.9 million at 30 June 2010. Total deer numbers were estimated at around 1.2 million; a figure which has remained stable for the last few years.
